A Sad Day...

Today, we had to let Dixie go. After 13-1/2 years with us, she told us it was time and would we please let her go while she still had her dignity. It was one of the hardest things we've ever had to do. We knew the day was coming -- but all of a sudden, it just sort of happened that we needed to act and help her out.

Too Hot for 60!

Today when I woke up my master... I decided I wanted to have chow right away but the master made me go outside. It was too cold for me, so I did my business (and didn't even bother to check the fresh smells) and ran up the stairs into the house. I was so hungry! I've been noticing lately that after I have my run and climb the stairs that my legs are all shaky. Am I getting old, or what??? The books says that little dogs my weight and age are really aging faster and that I'm probably more like a 60 year old. I find that hard to believe -- just look at me -- I'm way too gorgeous to look 60! I'm as hot as the little Pom around the corner and I think the little Chihuahua across the street thinks so too - because I keep getting the eye whenever I get to explore the front yard.

I just couldn't help it...

Today when I woke up my master and after he let me run around outside, I got to come back in wake up the lady. It was so easy -- all I had to do was push my nose and head under her hand and she was putty in my hair.

They spent a little time with me and then the lady left. My master hung around all day but he just spent all his time on the computer and I just kept after him to give me some food. That trick worked. He gave me some of that soft stuff -- not the hard stuff -- the beefy stuff out of the can. Man, did my day begin great.

Then when the lady came home, they spent more time on the computer and then left me. I thought, "Gee, they don't want to play???" So I decided to leave them a little treasure in the computer room. I don't think they were too happy with me when they came home. All for now, I've got to run and hide!

It's a dog's life...

Today, I woke up and decided I had to go potty. So I stomped all over my masters and the man took me out. It was nice. I got to run around a little. Then, he made me come in and put me back on the bed with the lady.

He told me to "wake her up, Dixie!" I didn't really want to because I just wanted to lay down again myself.

Then he told me to talk to him. What does he think I am? A talking dog! So, I pretended and it seemed to make him happy. He started started to get dressed and I figured I had but a few minutes tops to lay down and relax...so I did.

After they were both up and ate in front of me, he left. When she started moving around more, I said, "heck with this - it's too early - so I went back down the hall to the bedroom and went to bed."

They just think its funny that I do this. I don't get it - I'm just a dog, what else should I do? That's me up there. Man, I was tired!!!

Who's the fairest of them all... Dixie!

We've decided to showcase our little Dixie poochie with her own little "dog blog". She's the light of our life.

Don't let that little face fool you -- she'd take a chunk of your ankle if her mouth wasn't so flat! (That's even with a few teeth missing and really just one little fang left.)

Dixie is about 12 year's old now and most times acts like she's still just a puppy. The times we can really tell she's aged is after chasing rabbits and squirrels around the back yard, back and forth along the fence until she drops. While she foams at the mouth, we attempt to calm her down from all the excitement of the chase! We like to travel a lot and always need to find a place for Dixie to stay while we're away. It's a little "challenging" as most people are a little afraid of her because she takes about 2-3 days to warm up to you if you have her full time. So until she warms up to you, she may not eat or drink anything and possibly make herself sick because she's so scared.

You should see her when she's ready to go to bed ... she looks at you and slowly walks down the hall to the bedroom. I guess that's better training than a child might have!

All for now ... watch for more pictures of our piranha puppy.

(By the way, we're competing with another dog blog, "It's All About Rocky Boy" at http://adaywithrocky.blogspot.com)
